Platinum Stars will not underestimate the little known and lower division team Steenberg United FC, whom they drawn in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup.
Dikwena were drawn against Steenberg United FC, who play in Safa’s ABC Motsepe League, at the 2016 Nedbank Cup draw held in Sandton on Thursday night. Stars PR and Communications head Tebogo Mochadibane was quick to point out to Platinumstars.com that Cavin Johnson’s men will not take United FC for granted.
“We are happy to be drawn against Steenberg United FC. In the Nedbank Cup there’s never a small team. We have seen happened in the past. Steenberg is a team we don’t know much about but I am hopeful that we will dig and try to find out who they are, where they from are and how long they have been in the Safa structures playing their football. It’s a good draw for us,” said Mochadibane, who added that coach Johnson has been telling his players not to rest on their laurels.
“From our previous match against Kaizer Chiefs in the league, the coach spoke a lot about being in a comfort zone. The players understand when coach talks. There isn’t that reluctance anymore in the team. Right now any team that we play against is a cup final for us. We have to push. The season is about to end in few months. Any game that we play should be able to get results that will get us into that top four. We also want to go as far as possible in the Nedbank Cup.”
Stars will be away to United FC at a venue and date yet to be announced by the PSL. Mochadibane has stressed the importance of doing well in the Ke Yona tournament.
“It would have been nice if we could have been drawn at home against team that is not known but going to them is still okay. I guess we will live with that. All teams in the PSL and the 16 teams that have been drawn will be gunning for the Nedbank Cup. It’s not going to be an easy one. It’s going to be a long road. We will soldier on. It’s one trophy that we look to put our best foot forward and give our best performance in,” said Mochadibane.
Before taking on United FC, Dikwena will welcome University of Pretoria at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium this coming Sunday. Stars will be looking to build on their recent form.
“The team has prepared well. We want to continue from where we left off against Chiefs and collect the three points. It’s important for us to consolidate our position in the top eight so that we take part in top eight competition the following season,” said Mochadibane.
Kick off is at 3.30pm and supporters are urged to come in numbers.
