Johnson confident ahead of a showdown in Sfax
Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson is adamant his men can emerge victorious in Sfax tonight.

Dikwena will battle Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien in a CAF Confederation Cup Group B clash at Stade Taiebis Mhiri tonight. Though Dikwena are at the bottom of the group, Johnson is confident that his men can get something out of the match. After last night’s training at the venue, Johnson told Platinumstars.com that a loss is not on his men’s minds.

“We had a feel of the field last night. The pitch is in fantastic condition. The players enjoyed it. It is a similar size to our pitch back at home. When I look at training and make analysis I think the players are ready. They were happy. We are as happy as they are. We are ready to play football and compete. The least we would like to go home with is a point. If God is willing and He is able to give us the points then we will accept,” said Johnson.

The last time Dikwena played a CAF match, they lost 4-2 to Mbabane Swallows in Swaziland. Johnson believes his men learnt a great deal from that loss.

“I think we underestimated the opponents. I think players learnt a lesson that you don’t underestimate opponents. I think they are more prepared mentally than they were before,” said Dikwena coach.

It won’t be the first time that Dikwena play CS Sfaxien. The two sides clashed almost a decade ago in the same tournament. Johnson together with former coach Miguel Gamondi led Dikwena against Sfaxien at the same venue where they lost 2-0. The other match was a 2-2 draw in Rustenburg. Johnson knows what to expect.

“Sfax have good history. It’s one of the stronger teams within the North Africa region. When you look at Egyptians, Moroccan, Algerians and Tunisians teams, they are one of the strong teams. We expect a good fight. We have analyzed and they have changed a lot. I think they have just recently, in the last four weeks, changed the coach. We have done our home work and we can get the African flair that can give us the edge over the opponents,” said Johnson.

Kickoff is at 11pm.
